Welcome to Week 28 – B Week: Pearls' Coastal Capers!

Featuring: Blades, Benches, Baker, Bridge, Breakers

BLADES
Blades of the Judah Baker Windmill in South Yarmouth. Constructed in 1791 overlooking Grand Cove, it was moved several times before being placed in its current spot on a cliff above Windmill Beach. On W-week I tried really hard to find a photography angle that would include both the windmill and the beach but figured out that without a drone it would not be possible. So I ended up posting a photo of just the beach. Here for B-week are just the windmill blades.

BENCHES
Benches at Seaview Beach, South Yarmouth MA. Early May and not a soul around. By July it's so crowded you often can't even find a parking space!

BAKER
The Captain Baker Donut Shop. Initially I thought the name of this donut shop was a creative seafaring theme. A sea captain baking donuts … sure, why not! But after some research I discovered that Captain Calvin F. Baker was a real sea captain who in the late 1800's built the home and the carriage house that has been transformed into this local favorite donut shop. Genealogy fun fact: The Windmill Baker family and the seafaring Baker family appear to be descendants of the same early colonial settler.

BRIDGE
The Bass River Bridge in July. I was on the bridge facing southwest trying to get a good photo of the moon over nearby Packet Landing when I noticed that it was starting to get light out and the moon was harder to see. So I packed up and got ready to head home. Then out of the corner of my eye I caught this pretty sunrise view off the opposite, northeast, side of the bridge. Serendipity!

BREAKERS
Ocean breakers producing pretty white foam over the jetty at Corporation Beach in October. Part of the reason I love this beach is the proximity of the parking lot. You can drive right up to the beach and get this view! I was standing next to my car when I took this photo.

Thanks for joining me for Pearls' Coastal Capers - “B week”!

These are stunning photos as usual Pearls. The first photo of the blades of the Judah Baker Windmill reminds me of the windmills in Holland when I was there. You always come up with an interesting display of photos. Well done Pearls!

Hi Pearls - I like this week's 'B' selection. With my Dutch heritage, it delighted to see a windmill/it's blades grace your page . The symmetry (?) of the 3rd and 4th shots really draw the eye in as points of interest, especially the unoccupied bench seats.

    Quoting  :

Unfortunately no eclipse photos. It was raining here during the eclipse. But even if the sky had been clear I'm not sure I could have gone outside to take photos because I was in the middle of an annoying reaction to my Covid booster. Feeling much better today!

Thanks, Maudie! I agree ... it is such a pretty windmill. Can't wait for J-week (Judah Baker Windmill) to post a full photo of it I took while standing on the beach below. It's bordered by boulders and flowers.

Thanks, Shartaun. Glad you enjoyed them! The windmill is positioned in such a way that it's tricky to photograph, but the challenge was half the fun!

Glad you liked the photos, Lilium! The unoccupied bench photo shows how I "feel" Cape Cod. I love off-season days when everything's quiet.

I love to watch the waves breaking against the rocks!

I agree .. waves breaking are beautiful! I had fun using the "live" feature of my phone to edit this photo. I tripped across the feature accidentally. Had no idea it was installed as part of my phone's camera! I still have a lot to learn about taking photos with my phone but that's half the fun!
