Sounds like a fun time. Our kids used to love to search through the rocks that the road crew truck brought in to the land just west of us. It was piled up and stored there to be used when they oiled the roads. They often found fossils in the rocks, and one of their favorite things to find was what they called Indian beads. They were actually fossils of a sea creature, but they were round with a hole in the center, so they could be used as beads.
Strange to find sea fossils in the gravel pits in the middle of our country, isn't it?

LAKE MICHIGAN OR LAKE SUPERIOR? WE DIDN'T HAVE MANY SHELLS ON OUR BEACHES BUT HERE IN THE MED THERE ARE SOMETIMES REALLY NICE ONES.

This was at Lake Michigan in the Stonington area. The water table was low and we waded out to an island.
