Photo Monday

I stayed in this house in the late nineties. The upper floor is made of wood whilst the lower one is of brick and mortar. Note the thick pillars. This house was built by the British during the colonial times.
A railroad runs past behind the house and at five in the morning, the mail train will whistle as it pulls off from the Railway Station two hundred meters away. The area is very leafy with tall trees. Animals abound – a civet cat family lives in the ceiling and a wild piglet paid us a visit once.
Alas, it is abandoned now with doors, windows, lights and fans missing. The ransackers did a thorough job

Abandoned homes makes me feel sad sometimes. I still have our old house in my birthplace in the Philippines and it make me sad to see it remembering all memories attached on it. I am sure you feel the same.

Thank you Lee for posting! Very much appreciated.

Hi Poet,

The house is still standing but the government wishes to sell off the land. That area is now much sought after.
When we first shifted in, we were troubled by scratching sounds in the attic in the middle of the night. I thought it was a scaly animal like an anteater. It was only when the roof was being repaired when a tall tree fell onto part of it during a stormy night that we found civet kittens in the attic.

In an area like that you describe, houses with many windows around are perfect. I like the picture. Thanks, Lee.

Hi Poet,

It is in Jalan Hang Jebat,Taiping. As for the kittens, we left it below a tree nearby hoping that the parents would find them. I don't think civets like to be domesticated.

Hi grandbluff,

There were two rooms upstairs and one downstairs. We have very spacious hall both up and downstairs and a large "balcony" upstairs (the part you see protruding out).
