Swan Lake : Latest News

Today is day forty since the swan laid her eggs. That is the day when the eggs are most likely to hatch. So imagine how I felt when I rose at 7:30 this morning to the sound of torrential rain pelting the roof.

To think of that beautiful swan sitting dutifully on her eggs in such weather is a real bummer. It is now 9:35 and the rain has eased greatly but still falling without cease.

Billy and me will make at least one visit to the nesting spot today no matter what the weather is like, even in heavy rain if necessary. We are determined to photograph the cygnets at the youngest possible age that we can manage.

We passed the nest last evening just after 7pm and the mother was asleep with her head tucked into her back as you can see from the picture.

We'll keep you posted, it shouldn't be much longer.

Maudie.. I can hardly wait...I'm loving these reports!

Happiness is where we find it, but rarely where we seek it.

Hi Maudie, We have pelting rain here today as well and Susan has just come back soaked to the skin after walking the dogs!!! She is very brave.
I was thinking of you going to the Park today in the rain! I really hope you get your picture. The poor swan, I wonder does she mind the rain. Im looking forward to the next picture, and maybe the babies will have arrived.

Why don't you just affix a "Swan Cam" to the Mother's head???? That's what they do in NASCAR races so that we spectators can see the race from the driver's point of view!!!

P.S. Your swan cygnets will probably be going much slower!!!!
