Still Don't Know

No word yet on the fate of our lake property. The fire is now past our area but has spread to the area we would need to go through to access it. None of those evacuated have been allowed back in. Some who live in organized communities have heard but those of us who are "solo" properties have not heard a thing. The estimate for containment is August 29 so I suppose it will be at least that long.

An irony? CalFire is using private citizens with heavy equipment to help build fire breaks. Some of the areas (like ours) are not accessible to the trucks bringing in the heavy equipment. We have (or maybe it's had) a bull dozer and a huge road grader right there but none of us could get in to even give the firefighters the keys. I learned to operate the dozer a couple of years ago figuring that in the event of emergency I could run it thus freeing up the younger stronger folks to do the things I can't (learned this one growing up on the farm. Small women and larger drive the tractors and trucks for these reasons.). Well, emergency came and neither me, the dozer nor the younger and stronger managed to connect.

You just never know.

I can understand the anxiety you are having now for the properties that you have in the fire zone. Have faith in something whatever that must have prevented the fire to leave your properties untouched! Miracles do happen spiritwoman!

Like Roxy says, it is an unusual twist of fate that you have the equipment and are unable to use it. Hope things work out for you.

Alfie...

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

I was thinking about your heavy equipment when you mentioned it in your first fire blog, it's a shame no one was up there who could operate it, or give the keys to someone who could. The bulldozer is a great piece of equipment for making firebreaks, better than my tractor and a lot faster. I use my tractor when the grasses start getting dried up and make a firebreak on 3 sides of my property, I don't worry about the back property, there's a creek running through it. Neighbors on both sides don't keep their fields mowed down, up front I worry about someone throwing out a cigarette. The day before it started raining here again, we had 4 grass fires in the area, one was close to home. I'm just thankful the wind wasn't blowing that day and all the fires were contained.
