Our Over Inflated Egos

Being out of the country for a few weeks I saw that our political fussing, fuming and arguing that we think is so meaningful is irrelevant to the ordinary person in the rest of the world

I had another such revelation today. A Day Without Women, a day designated for women to not work to show our importance or if not able to not work at least wear red. I got up and pulled on my gym top and yoga pants (my around the house outfit) . My top is red but it is one of the same ones I always wear. No particular reason. Red was the color on sale at Ross and who cares what color your sweaty workout clothes are?

Besides, no one will see this outfit unless I go out in it, which I do not intend to do. Carrying this thought further I realized that I have not worked for anyone but myself in years so who would care if I didn’t work today? Shopping? Something I was not planning on doing today anyway. Nothing like reality to put us in our place. I’m realized I am irrelevant. Even if I stayed in bed all day no one would notice, let alone care.

Positive spin? Perhaps this is true freedom. "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose". We all need to just get over ourselves.

    Quoting  :

I did all of the same things and even more, but that was then and now is now. At the moment there is little I could do that would matter to anyone else. It's a natural passage in life. Unfortunately most of the folks here who run on about their political stance don't realize of accept this. I'm actually happy to turn it all over to the younger generations. After all they are the ones who will have to live in the world they create long after we are gone. Age seems to relegate us to a more passive role in the grand scheme of things.

However, if there were anything I could do today, in this climate and culture, to make things better for those who are denied I would gladly do it. I just haven't seen anything on the horizon yet.

Agree with this statement, Spirit. I think many young people ignores our value, experience and wisdom.

I heard an illustration once that said when you get feeling you are too important and too indispensable, put your hand in a bucket of water. Withdraw your hand and see how big of a hole you leave.
Other than those immediately around us, who are close and dear, who would tryly miss us, our absence means nothing more than an inconvenience to some and purely nothing to others.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.
