Wow....235 years....I live in a Marine town....near 29 Palms Marine Base...I've heard the largest marine base in the world. So, alot of marines walking around....I love them all...they make us very, very proud!!! Thank you

You haven't read it? I'm shocked. I also recommend the memoirs of Eugene Sledge and William Manchester.

On this Veterans' Day, i would like to pay tribute.....to Daniel Ronen 'Pete' Cox, who was killed in action on July 4, 1967, at the age of 21....Pete survived a horrific battle unscathed, only to be felled by a sniper's bullet after he volunteered to join a search for missing Marines from that battle....going to talk to his Mother after receiving the notification was one of the most difficult things i have ever done...Pete was one of my best friends, and i don't recall ever seeing him without a smile on his face....and for my friend, Rick Brown, who had been a Marine prior to being the only real Navy SEAL i have ever known....Rick was hospitalized for about 18 months after suffering war wounds, and would suffer intense physical and emotional pain each and every day up to the day of his death....Rick found only alcohol could soothe those wounds, and he died way too young at the age of 47 of a heart attack....to my friends Pete and Rick....You are gone but NEVER forgotten......bob
