Israel Apartheid Week I have been to these events frequently over the years. One learns a lot of interesting stuff. Palestinians organize the event, but they get speakers of various backgrounds. Last night there was a Jewish woman who worked in olive groves with Palestinian farmers, an Irish journalist who spends a lot of time in Gaza, and an American lady from a global Christian church organization the name of which escapes me. They talked about their experiences in working with Palestinians and Israeli Jews. The Irish guy answered some of my questions about the tunnels from Gaza into Egyptian and Israeli territory. There is a lot of hype on the internet claiming that these are anti-Jewish propaganda diatribes. Far from it. At the start of every one the organizer says quite clearly that no hate speech will be tolerated. Nor have I heard any such speech, even in private discussions afterwards. Not many Jews attend, except for ones who agree with people such as Chomsky and Finkelstein - i.e. self-hating Jews. Personally I think Israel Apartheid Week is a misnomer. It should be called Israel Lebensraum Week. While I completely agree that the treatment of Palestinians in Gaza and the 'Disputed Territories" is very similar to SA apartheid, it's only a strategy and not an end. The raison d'etre of Israeli apartheid is riding Israel, Gaza, East Jerusalem, and the West Bank of all Arabs. The Boers in SA never had such a goal. They just wanted the Blacks and Coloureds to know their place and not cause trouble. |

How many Jews have been killed recently in Canada, Norway, Denmark, Finland, New Zealand, Australia? Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean everyone everywhere is out to persecute you.

Very interesting post Rentier! A friend of my daughters worked a security mission in that area, and said something similar. It's a mess!!
