Mike, talk to yourself and say, I am quitting, not cutting down, not stopping...QUITTING! Eventually your mind will accept it. Don't use a target date, just say...ok, today it is.

I told myself things like, when I finish this pack, tomorrow, next Tuesday, after the holidays, on and on. One day I woke up and decided that was it! I QUIT on June 12, 1996 and have never desired a cigarette.

It was so easy because I guess my mind had finally been ready. If you do stop one day, do not and I repeat, do not pick up a cigarette and say, I will just have this one. Before you know it, you are smoking again.

It sounds so easy but it took me many tries and one day I was DONE! I had quit....stopped twice for 6 months, once for 2 1/2 years and made the mistake to try "just one" and before I knew it I was hooked again.

When you do quit...do NOT take just one! Never pick up another one again!! Good luck.

Mike, my thoughts are with you. I carried that monkey for 22 years and it is NOT an easy animal to kick!

LOTS of juice...you need to flush the nicotine and tar from your system. LOTS of juice.

Wash EVERYTHING you can....get rid of the smell around you. That'll help. Carry a tooth brush. Every time you get the urge...BRUSH YOUR TEETH until it passes. Get a soft bristle one to start with...it'll be easier on your gums!

Just because you have silenced a man does not mean you have changed his mind.

I would try more like 5 weeks. Both my husband and me quite smoking cold turkey. Several years after we both quite he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.

Please quit soon because I'm sure those that care for you would love to have you around much longer.

I was just kidding about 5 years,However i've gone a week.
i have to want to have to quit mentally, and the other
problem is alot of my friends smoke. so it's so easy to
ask them for a smoke and also need to not let them smoke
in my house.. What it comes down to is just do it and not
say after this pack. i'm the only one who can do it !!

Your right on all points.. i have to get it in my head and make some
life style changes with other people. 1 - not allow them to smoke
in the house.. i had to bag up all my cloth items [collections] in
plastic bags because of the nicotine damaging them..thanks
