It's official republicans engage in class warfare

CLASS WAR CONFIRMED: Republicans Who Blocked Flint Assistance Got Disaster Funds for Their StatesNathan Wellman | February 5, 2016

"As Flint continues to suffer from its poisoned water supply, Republicans in Congress are stalling a measure that would provide emergency relief.

The provision in question would give $600 million in aid to the people of Flint, which would be used to replace the city’s toxic water supply infrastructure and set up a center devoted to helping Flint citizens recover from lead poisoning.

Republicans are obstinately insisting that this is “a state and local problem,” and actually tried to label Democrats’ attempts to help hundred of underprivileged families as “using the crisis to play politics.”

Igor Volsky of Think Progress was quick to recognize that many of the Republicans claiming at this disaster is a local issue who were happy to ask for disaster relief funds for their own states. This prompted a series of epic tweets in which Volsky exposes each individual hypocrite by name.

Proponents of the bill share Volsky’s disgust with Republican callousness. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) unleashed scathing remarks on the floor, accusing Republicans of abandoning the American citizens that is Congress’s duty to protect.

“One hundred thousand people in Flint, Michigan, have been poisoned, and Republicans do nothing,” Reid said. “Nine thousand little — all under the age of 6 — have been poisoned, their brains attack by the contaminated water. Still, Senate Republicans refuse to help.”

Republicans insisted the money needs to be “offset” somewhere else in the budget. Senator Barbara Mikulski’s (D-MD) incredulous fury says it all:

“This is of catastrophic, almost Armageddon proportion, that an American city has been poisoned,” she said. Let’s get real. We are now bogged down in Washington wonky budgeteer talk: ‘Where is the offsets?’ What is this? What is this? Are we human beings?”

The following republicans have asked for and received Federal aid while at the same time blocking Federal aid to Flint, Michigan. So what makes Flint, Michigan the step of republicans? First it is poverty stricken. Second it is heavily populated by black Americans.

Pat Roberts, Jerry Moran, Rob Portman, Mitch McConnell, Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Herb Kohl, Governor Walker and Inhoffe.

With all the billions being paid out in foreign aid alone every year, if the politicians cared at all they could simply re-route a very small portion of that money to Flint. Those poor people can't use their water to drink, to shower, to wash their hair, etc , yet they're still expected to pay their water bill.

I agree with the Republicans.

Katrina was a state and local problem as well.

People should fix their own problems instead of expecting the feds to bail them out all the time.
