As I see it we are all slaves to corporate / political (which is corporate in disguise) America. Although I always worked in the area of my passion I often felt like a prostitute to whatever organization paid me.

Having worked in the social welfare field I can honestly say that there is more hoop jumping to receive benefits than anyone here would believe. The problem with this is that the truly needy are left in the dust becasue the reason for their need is so disabling that they are unable to navigate the system. That is a whole other topic that I may gather enough hope that anyone here would listen to make it worth the effort of writing.

So, we are all workin' for the 'Man?' True, if you consider all corporations to be organized pimps. You provide a service and you are compensated for your effort. This is not, in my opinion, prostituting yourself to anyone.

Also, isn't is a bit of a cop-out to say the truly needy are left in the dust because they cannot navigate the system? This is akin to the Democrats saying it is racist to have African-Americans obtain voter identification cards. There are advocacy groups for both groups and I am sure there are more people who do not apply for assistance because of personal pride than because they cannot navigate the system.

I understand the analogy, and do agree with it, but the "slave" designation is no longer by color, but by mindset.
There are good government handouts...... those that help someone while they are working their way to a point to be able to take care of themselves. Sadly, by the time they reach that point, they almost need continued assistance because of everything that is taken to give to those of the 'sit on my butt' mentality.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

Spirit made a comment above which sort of says we are all slaves to someone. Whether it is the state, the federal government or even a belief system. I think you are both right.

Welfare was never intended to be a way of life.

I think that the colour of the slaves has changed from black to brown.

How so? Are you saying Latinos are the new slaves?

You need to explain this one.
