You are right..... it is not a BBQ day, it is a Nashville Memorial Day Bash time. LOL. Just joking. Memorial Day was a day of remembrance and history all during my childhood. My grandmother would cut flowers and store them in the refrigerator until the day before. Then she would take me, along with the flowers, jars, and a gallon of water to the cemetery. The gallon of water was to prime the old pump there. People were supposed to leave a jug full of water beside it, for the next person to use to prime it, but not everyone did. Then as we walked around the cemetery and placed jars of flowers, I got a lesson in family and town history, both those who had been in the military and those who had not. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

Canada's Memorial day is November 11th. In Newfoundland-Labrador, Canada Day July 1st is a time of remembrance as well as Nov. 11th which is dedicated to somber ceremony and the remembrance of those who fought and those who gave their lives for our country and the freedom of other countries.

My only experience with the US Memorial Day was in 1964. I was an Officer Cadet stationed at RCAF Station Goose Bay in Labrador for the summer. Next door was a SAC base, Goose Air Base. Because GAB was on foreign soil, everything was tax free, and slot machines were everywhere earning money for the various clubs on base. On that year's Memorial Day the GAB Officers' Club had free booze all day.
