I watched my mother endure two abusive marriages. Although I never heard my dad belittle or berate her, I know from things I learned later (he was killed in an accident when I was in the third grade) that it happened, even if it was subtle.
Her second husband was not only verbally abusive, he was a mean drunk and very physically abusive. Why didn't she leave? I often asked myself that question, but the truth was he told her he would find her and kill her, and he believed her. Restraining orders have no meaning to some people.
I broke free of his abuse when I looked him in the eye and told him to never touch me again. Something inside of me just welled up, and I had no fear of him anymore and I think he sensed that.
To my knowledge, he never beat my mother again either.

I meant to say, SHE believed him.

I love it when people try to abuse me in SFF.
For some odd reason they give up pretty quickly.

Perhaps because you are a boor, Sir.

I may be that, but then I would expect more abuse.
