Dan, Dan, bite your tongue........ he will out of there in 23 and a half days, not 50! Don't make it any worse than it is.
But he can still do a lot of damage to our country.

I'm glad he is on his way OUT, and that article explains the plans he HAD, not has.
There is a way to get out of Section 8 housing........... it is called WORK. It might not be easy, but it can be done! But those people who have something, usually got it by working for it, not sitting and wanting someone else to give it to them.

I'm and neither for or against it.

That being said, I think one needs to understand it, before they can say.

Section 8 housing is a government subsidy to low income based on their income.

The government basically pays the housing owner the difference, between the rent and the % of income alotted for housing for the low income person.

Decisions of section 8 section housing is determined by the owner, and qualified by the government.

This decision is to eliminate the ownership designation. If between the government and the low income person the rent is met. then the owner should not be able to discriminate.

I neither agree nor disagree with the assumption that and owner should not be able to discriminate for reasons other than ability to pay the rent. However, I do believe section 8 should not be the sole determining factor.

So let me respond. In many ways you are correct, but not always.

Social Security is the best SOCIAL PROGRAM this country has ever come with.
It is a social program, that has dedicated tax revenue. The tax payer pays the taxpayer, that's why it's so great. But isn't all our taxes suppose to be paid back to us, in the government spending, Don't we all suppose to pay taxes designated for ourselves. We don't, but Social Security we do. Those that want to take the tax out of Social Security will destroy it.

    Now to the point......
I know a lot of people whose income is only social security. Good people.
Their only choice for independent survival is section 8 housing, where the government takes like a third of their social security and pays the rent.
These people can only live in Section 8 housing. they get their hand out, just as fast as anyone else.
We have places like that in our area, often referred to as high rise because they are apartments with several floors.......... but limited to seniors.
Most other Section 8 housing is occupied by younger folks who expect to be handed stuff. It would be ok, if just a temporary thing on a person's way UP, but too many want to park there for the rest of their lives. My daughter was a manager at one of the section 8 housing facilities, and she said the tenants were some of the most demanding, rude, lazy and dishonest people she had ever met, and their homes reflected that attitude.
Are these the kind of people that Obama wanted to push onto the rest of us?

No keep them in the slums, outta sight out of mind!

"I many ways you are correct"

Just pointing out one way you are not.

the idea that section 8, is singularly a label, Under which ALL people under section 8 must have to fall under IS WRONG.

Well, excuse me for not making it perfectly clear that I was referring to able bodied, lazy people who prefer to live in section 8 housing and let the government take care of them from cradle to grave. Those kind of people turn section 8 housing into slums.......... so who would want to live next to them in nicer neighborhoods?
The city near me had an area of "government housing" or "projects", as it used to be called. They were nice apartments, all one level, with pretty little streets. After several years, they were the most unsafe area of the city, and slummy looking with young people just hanging out all over the place. I don't mean teens or kids, I mean guys and gals in their 20s and 30s, who should have been working. You would see a few of the apartments with little flower beds in front of them, trying to look their best, but mostly it was junk in the yards.
The city eventually bulldozed them all down and built other section 8 housing. They are two story apartment buildings, with nice lights on the streets and scattered out in several different areas. Hopefully, it will more successful and help people rise above their need for it.
And, even more hopefully, for the elderly and disabled, it will be a safe place to call home.
