I think I understand how they feel.

I seem to recall that Muhammed Ali said something along those lines when he refused the draft:

Ain't no Viet Cong ever called me N-word.

Being a Black millionaire doesn't help if nobody recognizes you.
All honkies see is another N-word probably carrying a knife.

If this is how you honestly feel about this "protest" then I honestly feel you are as much of a problem as they.

Fossil you don't like it when rich black people voice opinions different from yours right? After all we allowed them to make that money right.

Where were you when rich white Donald Trump disrespected and belittled Gold Star Mother Ghazala Kahn.

Fossil_Fetcher replies on 9/5/2018 5:38 am:
Nah, I can name a lot of rich black people who I like.

So now folks are going to be rushing to Old Navy to buy some Niki Shoes for burning and they are going to drink beer while watching Opera instead of Football Games. It should be interesting to hear the National Anthem in Opera.

Never heard of Niki shoes but if they aren't made by Nike, I may be interested.

People often equate who they are with what they do and if what they do pays them huge sums of money, they believe their opinions and protests are important to other people. It appears they are far more important in a negative aspect than in a positive aspect.
I don't like organized boycotts, and I don't really consider this organized, but if individuals chose to not watch or not buy products associated with certain people, that is their choice. It would just be nice for a change to good news about athletes and Hollywood types...... things they do to help others, instead of just trying to promote their own names and agendas............ but I guess those things aren't newsworthy to the general public?

Boycotts have been back-firing on the liberals in recent times. Remember the demands for Chick-fil-a and all the protests about bakers being forced to make cakes for the rainbow-loving public? I remember Obama's crocodile tears after Sandy Hook and how he instantly became the best gun salesman in the Nation.

Lets check back in a few months and see if Nike recovers. I hope the boycott works. The sweat shops in China will just have to find another way to make money.

The man was using his celebrity status to shine light on an injustice in the world while doing it in a peaceful, nonviolent way. Kneeling is not disrespecting the flag, the National Anthem or veterans. Disrespect is using the flag as toilet paper, mooning during the National Anthem or flipping off veterans. There are some who chose to ignore Veterans just like they ignore the plight for people of color.

Can you tell me exactly which injustice is highlighted by some prima donna football player taking a knee during the National Anthem? What did it accomplish? Was one African-American helped by his protest? All he did was piss off a bunch of people including a lot of African-Americans.

Next, I suppose you'll tell me his career has suffered as a result of the protests. No, his career is suffering because he is a lousy quarterback.

I would like to think that I am more of a problem than they are, at least in the SFF community.

Sometimes I find your witty remarks to be spot-on. At other times, not so much. I guess it is a matter of tastes.

Not to worry Fossil Darlin - Your Mary Jane shoes are safe from the fire. We'll see you at the Opera. “La NIKI es como una aria y nunca llega a ser ópera.”

Fossil_Fetcher replies on 9/5/2018 8:09 am:
You can pack a lot of inaccurate crap into one comment, Star. I am not your "Darlin'," I have no idea what Mary Janes shoes might be, and your attempt at using Google Translate is an utter failure.

“La NIKI es como una aria y nunca llega a ser ópera,” means something to you, I guess, but to others it only means "The NIKI is like an aria and never becomes an opera." Like you, I am from West Virginia but we obviously don't share a common language.

You raised another interesting point...... Where the Nike shoes are made overseas, are they done with "sweatshop" work environments? If so, why isn't he protesting the treatment of those people?

Their sweat-shop scandals have come and gone for years. I have noticed that the scandals seem to reappear when politicians are running for reelection and are immediately silenced when the dollars begin to flow.

Fossil, my previous post is about Patriotism.

In the case of Ghazala Kahn ... you have Donald Trump a Vietnam War draft dodger mocking, disrespecting and belittling a Gold Star Mother.

Jane Fonda gets higher marks for Patriotism than Trump … she apologized for her mistake. .

Slick Willie was one as well, but at least he didn't mock any Gold Star mothers so far as I know.

He may have jumped one, however.

Bush II was essentially a draft dodger as well.

He and John Connolly's son were in the Texas Air Guard defending the Mexican border against VC insurgents.

Bush II also went AWOL for a time and was never charged.

NFL Tim Tebow kneeled in protest of abortion during the National Anthem in 2012 and was hailed a "model citizen." and given additional contracts. Colin Kaepernick clearly stated that his protest was about police brutality and systematic racism. It had nothing to do with the flag or the military. He seems to be surviving quite well without playing football and has expanded his horizon to help other blacks. Tebow on the other hand has not prevented one single abortion. He was just trying to control vaginas because he doesn't have one.

Sorry, Star, that information is incorrect. Here is a quote from Snopes about the subject...........
"Tim Tebow’s pro-life stance is well known, but he didn’t “take a knee” during the national anthem. And when Tebow did kneel on the gridiron, his actions were those of private prayer conducted during incidental moments surrounding a game and not, as Colin Kapernick’s were, a form of public protest purposefully tied to the playing of the U.S. national anthem."

Fossil, you want to know "Do any of them really know how blacks were oppressed in the past or are they simply jumping on the Colin Kaepernick bandwagon"?

I think they know plenty about it. Why wouldn't parents tell their kids about the world they grew up in? Mine did. I'm sure the millionaire athletes know way more about Black History than you. And who do you think studies Black History? Not you ...

One more thing .. imagine a Black Democrat candidate mocking a Gold Star Mother … need I say more?

You really need to take that Patriot sign down!
