I agree..... and I am not a gun owner, although I am seriously considering becoming one again. If we had a home invasion, I would call 911 who would dispatch the sheriff's deputies. We are 10 miles from that town, but their arrival time would depend on where they were patrolling when the call came in. So their arrival time would be anywhere from a couple of minute up to 20.
A shotgun in my closet would be less than a minute response. My kids would know to call me before entering my house, and they always give a holler when opening the door they use anyway.
I am not against new laws being enacted, if they could solve a problem..... but since when do people intent on harm to others pay attention to laws anyway? I would rather see armed security protecting areas of vulnerability as a deterrent, than some law that would be ignored and signs that say "no gun zone" that is an open invitation to those hell bent on harm to others.

Maisie, I'm not trying to take over your blog, but while I'm here, I'll also share what I put on Bigblock's blog. I know the subject of your blog is government control, but I believe the problem is deeper than just the weapon.... and government control is certainly not the answer!

" It should give people food for thought to realize that we have had access to guns for decades, but there didn't used to be school shootings...... so what is different?
Also, I think we need to look at other "killings" of our young people...... like all the deaths by guns in our cities like Chicago..... automobile accidents caused by disregard for laws against drunk driving, and texting while driving...... suicides.
What are the major changes in the home life in our country? What are the major changes in our society?
Politicians are not going to change these things, no matter how many new laws they pass. If people who have killing in their heart, and they can't get a gun, they will use a bomb or a knife or a car. Perhaps the problem isn't the weapon of choice, it is the hearts of people? "

There is a reason the oath we took included "enemies, foreign and domestic".

LOL..... No thanks! Whether that is a verb or a noun, I don't care to watch. Now, if you said for us to join you in a party or fishing, I might take you up on that!

continuing off subject.. back in the 70's I used to hear Ellen Degenerate as a guest on the SF talk radio station, KGO. I never considered her funny or even interesting. She is just another attitude, or personality who carries the agenda

Each mass shooting is a little different so ..

Wayne LaPierre wasted no time coming out with a statement informing his puppet Donald Trump, and his bought and paid for employees in Congress regarding where they stand on gun control this time.

Kind of important to your story .. but you failed to mention it.

That is true..... BUT, if that coach happened to chose to be armed, and was trained as a concealed carry person, he may have been able to kill the shooter instead of just getting killed himself.
Those who have concealed carry permits usually feel that at least they would go down fighting, instead of just going down...... and I know this because Joe and I spend time with some of the SFF members who do carry..... and nobody can even tell. It isn't bragged about or shown off, it is just a fact.

Wow, Maisie, either you're getting more fanatical by the hour, or you have reached a point where you don't care if it shows.....

Again you confuse disagreement with "missing the point".....You always miss the point that there is more than one point.......

One of the characteristics of fanatics is denial....unawareness of their own fanaticism......your viewpoint is all you can see.....everything else is just a blur. Your constant accusations that others "miss the point" is a strong indicator. I have posted many well-researched comments in your blogs and you just dismiss them with a talking point......just stamp it with a "wrong" label.......and then you complain that no one posts thought-out arguments....It's like your insistence that the US is "the freest country on Earth".......I mean, who says that? Who makes those kind of statements?

Why do you keep making those absolutist statements that are obviously not absolutely true. Why not just say that the US has some freedoms that you admire and love .....why this competition? Why "the freest on Earth", when it's obvious that freedom means different things to different people...if you include the rest of the Earth, then their opinions, their criteria for freedom must be included in the evaluation......Why is it so important to you that your country is at the top of this arbitrary list? That is just one thing that sounds like fanaticism....I will stop now, because you will probably just skim my comment and dismiss it as not "getting the point" as you always do.....

Interesting post coming from a blog clamoring for liberty and justice.

Did the Government overstep it's bounds passing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965?

Maybe you could elaborate on what's different about refusing to serve Blacks in a restaurant in the 50s and Melissa's Sweet Cakes refusing to bake a cake for a gay couple today?

Please do so in the context of "liberty and justice for all".

I wouldn't expect you to recognize Maisie's fanaticim, as you obviously breathe the same air. .......Using my own criteria and that of a great many others. The belief that both you and Maisie have that more guns will solve the domestic gun terrorism problem in your country is a sure sign of fanaticism........

The belief that your children living in fear for their lives even in schools and that your taxes are better spent arming teachers with guns than on all the needed resources that your present government is reluctant to provide, and in many cases have withdrawn, like smaller classes, more school nurses,
school psychologists and a tracking system linked to Federal systems....that you think that children living in fear is a sign of freedom and that guns are a symbol of liberty ......that,
to me is fanaticism, not freedom......

Life is full of grey areas and excuses, that's why we have judges. And I'm pretty sure vendors are not required to serve pork if it's not on their menu.

Clearly the gay couple was discriminated against ... and not because a custom wedding cake wasn't on Melissa's menu. They were discriminated against because of who they are. Big difference!

When discrimination goes unchecked it's called oppression.

Gay's pay taxes same as you and should have the same rights as you. I wouldn't call that "government overstepping it's bounds".

I didn't address the issue of profanity on a cake, racial slurs, or anything else people would be asked to do that violates their deeply held beliefs because I'm addressing the case that DID go to the supreme court.

And no, I don't think Little Sisters of the Poor should be forced to provide birth control.

As far as "nice people", Maybe Melissa is a very nice bigot? But I assume you weren't there, so you don't know what actually transpired. You don't know who was nice and who wasn't nice .. who was rude and who wasn't rude. So why comment on that part at all? .

As far as the bakers right to oppose gay marriage .. she certainly does have that right. Oppose whatever you want. Say whatever you want .. it's called free speech. But if you want to do business in the USA you APPLY for a license to do so, then you play by the rules. Not agreeing with the rules doesn't fly, Playing the God card doesn't fly.

As for your "deeply held beliefs" .. they look more like excuses. Excuses to be a bigot. Read the Bible. Jesus calls for separation between government and God.

BTW terrorists use deeply held beliefs as excuses to saw peoples heads off

And it has everything to do with taxes .. taxation without representation.
