Medicine In the US and My Friend's Blastoma

A very good friend.....a young mother of 3 was diagnosed with a very fast-growing brain tumor just days after Christmas............Her parents are from California and she has family there, but she was born and raised here. She found out that her best chances was an experimental , clinical study at UCLA treating post-surgical blastoma sites using the patient's own white blood cells.........

Her husband immediately went into warrior mode......In order to have the treatment, she had to have all the procedures done at UCLA.......She would have to be there for the pre-operative procedures to harvest and prepare cells and other evaluations, surgery, post-op care.......although the clinical trial was free, that only involved the white cell procedure..........everything else was full price.....medical expenses alone would cost 300,000 dollars and they had to pay 200,000 down to make an appointment........time is of the essence.....her health is deteriorating as we speak.........A site was set up online, the situation outlined and GO!.......She is a locally beloved musician, dancer, mom, athlete, volunteer, and her and her husband own and operate a small retail business...........She is such a loving and sincere person and has touched so many hearts.....has given of herself so lovingly .......they had their first goal for registration in 2 days.......Wow!......The deadline for the second goal is today and they are almost there....There have been prayer circles and well-wishing and fund-raisers put together....I'm donating a painting to a silent auction......people are donating amazing stuff.......a $6,000 dollar custom-built mountain bike went up this morning......hand built kyaks, resort packages............And of course musicians having fund-raising concerts........A friend is in charge of selling their business......the 300,000 only pays for their medical...they had put all their savings into the business..........

I had no idea that medical expenses were quite so big in the US.........but I'm glad there is this clinical trial......Seeing how generous and quick to respond to real need so many are has given us some light as we hold our sister and her family in our hearts and long for a way to ease their terror.........

Wouldn't you think a clinical trial would be low cost or free, considering you are willing to try new and experimental treatments to benefit others?
I hope the trials prove a success for your friend.

You're right about the USA having great clinical trials.

Sure hope that they're successful for your friend.
