One Block

This is my first blog, I have commented on lots but have never written one...today I will.

On April 2nd our town got hit with strong tornado like storms after dark. Later they said they weren't sure if it was a tornado or straight line winds. Whatever it was was in excess of 100 miles per hour. I was getting into the shower, heard the winds and heard a whistle, looked out and quickly dressed not knowing what was ahead. I saw the trees in my yard bending from west to east and things flying. There were no sirens so I wasn't sure just what it was. It ended as suddenly as it started. I saw the neighbor outside with a flashlight and asked if they were all right. They were and I was. He said there was a house in the next block that a power line fell on and was burning, you could see the flames shooting in the air. There were trees, branches and power lines and poles down. It stopped 1 block from my house!! We lost power from several hours to almost 3 days. Mine came on the next morning about 10 am. I drove west the next day where I heard there was a lot of destruction, it was like a war zone in some areas, next to it nothing. There was a church totally destroyed and for some reason they had their Sunday services in a Fellowship Hall 1 block from my house. They were all ok that night.
Last night...we had a very strong storm roll in with lightning, winds, hail and almost 5 inches of rain in less than 1-1/2 hours. We lost power for just a couple of seconds, but some parts of town lost it longer. This morning when my clock radio came on they were saying it was the worst flooding the mayor had ever seen here. They rescued 30 people with boats and cars had water up to the tops of the doors. The church Fellowship Hall lost all their chairs and benches they had brought from the destroyed church. This was 1 block away, where the straight line winds/tornado type winds were earlier this month. My basement had a small amount of water, I have a sump pump, thank God. The neighbor next to me and his neighbor had flooded basements.
It is amazing that both of these stopped ONE BLOCK AWAY!!

Wow, for a first blog...I got carried away!!

Further congratulations on your first blog. Great story telling.

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.
