Years ago, I worked in our church nursery with a sweet older black lady. One day, she was so excited because her "husband" was coming home for the weekend. They had been divorced for YEARS, he remarried and lived in Detroit with his wife and several children.
She explained to me that is just how black men are and their women accept it. They sleep around, beat their women when they deserve it, but the women know he loves them and they keep taking them back. I didn't buy it, and thought she was mighty dumb.
BUT...... years later, I took care of an old black man from the south who had got hit by a car, broken both legs, and his family wanted nothing to do with him. Turns out, he had a wife here, and two beautiful daughters and he had ran off with some other woman, moved south and had some kids with her.... but was still married to the woman here. His wife paid to have him brought here by ambulance, she and her daughters visited him faithfully, and months later when he was able to walk, they took him home. Perhaps them being the sweet Christian ladies that they were had a lot to do with their forgiving and loving attitude, but I think it was also partly that black culture attitude.
I said all that to say this............... With Conyers and his son..... perhaps it is the culture of his days that made him think what he did was his right?
I can see that culture changing in the public eye.......... but is it going to reach into the streets and homes where many women still hover in REAL fear?

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.
