A Vietnam ERA vet is not the same as a Vietnam vet. Nobody that was not there can ever imagine what that horror was like...... and many of those vets are still suffering from their service there. We hear so much about PTSD, but there are also many who were affected by agent orange.

Thank you, Boogie. I was basing my statement on something my brother inlaw told me, when I used the term "Vietnam era vet". We actually sold caps that said "era" on them. He works with veteran groups and told us that either you were in 'Nam or you weren't, and they were going to do away with the term Vietnam era vet. So either you were a Vietnam vet, or a vet, but not an "era".
I do respect all vets for their service, whether in war or peace time.

Then, on the day that we recognize our veterans, let me thank you for your service in a country that is our ally.

I have always regarded that as a stupid sentiment.
What service?
Killing people in places we shouldn't be?

No, not at all. Service to your country....... taking time away from your "normal" life and family and being willing to defend it if necessary. It isn't necessarily WHAT you did, but what you were willing to do for your country.

Thanks. I didn't realize there was such technical bulloney involved. I just figured if a vet was in 'Nam at all, then he/she was a 'Nam vet.

Yup.
Taking time from your normal life and family to go thousands of miles away to kill people in places you were sent for no good reason.
