open letter 'Fossil Fetcher' re: Old Rocky

I must admit your asking was the first I heard of Old Rocky, even living here 25 years. All of a sudden.. or least has finally come to my attention, Old Rocky is big news in town. Especially tomorrow Feb 7th. The Vacaville Reporter will have pictures tomorrow sure and this site will give as much information as to the current situation on Old Rocky as anyone would want to know. http://seniorfriendfinder.com

Even so I thought "no big deal" until I watched a city council meeting from last year, and a lot of people.. Browns Valley Residents vrs VVPD/FD, are upset over a new communications antenna. Seems many folks are as fond of Old Rocky as You

Apparently the city averted attention by calling the location 'Drakes Point' which nobody had heard of.

Thanks for the Old Rocky update and the need to plant yet another tower there. Trust me, if there is a way to screw something up, California will figure out how to make it happen. The Vacaville Reporter is good but when I went to their web-site and tried to find their archives I hit a brick wall. If you ever manage to find them, take a look at the Summer of 1960 for a story about how Old Rocky burned. I'll look for it too and maybe you'll understand my interest.

God Bless America

saveoldrocky at 'G' mail has some current photos including rendering of what the new antennas will look like (in less than an hour from now). I can see Butcher Hill antennas from my bedroom window and they don't really bother me, another out of mind necessary evil. There are 3 sets total on that ridge all the way to overlooking the prison. An advantage is a rough access road that goes all the way and is a nice hike with great views. There has been at least 3 fires in the last 25 years on these hills, one this past summer. All set by humans.

I'm not sure about 1960, but as a kid I remember driving through Vacaville past the gliderport in Lagoon Valley along I-80. It is a nice man-made lake and park now, and of course an effort for years to plant houses there. Also the former onion packing plant is now an ice skating rink.

I contacted the save old rocky email for info on the fire there in 1960

the original link I attempted to post is the 'City of Vacaville' website, 'government' then 'Drakes Point'
