Sadly, this tragic situation has become a political football both in GB and here. It is also sad that the parents were not allowed to seek even experimental treatment for their baby in Italy, who was willing to take the chance on it. Why could not the baby have been given that chance? Politics? Sadly, it appears so.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

Socialist medicine is evil.

Just look at Canada.

Americans are so much healthier than we are.

Rentier, thanks for the laugh of the day LOL.... Hey I know people outside of Canada, namely the US who haven't had an annual physical for the last 15 years; their reason: can't afford all the test! Well I know I shoudn't have to enlighten you as this is something you should already have knowledge of. I have an annual physical every year, including blood work, all the tests (X-rays etc) required and thus far, hasn't cost me a cent up front. Yes, we pay for it in our taxes, but that'e merely a premium we pay. Naturally our health care needs much more work like dental, vision etc ...for which many of us have private insurance. In addition, I have had to be taken to ER (more tests etc (at no cost)... Care to add to this?

Thank you, Maisie, learning something new is always a challenge for me. But I do distinctly remember when I used to visit FL every winter.. meeting women who would tell me they couldn't afford their annual check up etc. How strange.. But then wouldn't they have to also have private insurance to cover tests etc?

I am a strong advocate of the Canadian Healthcare system. I'm sure that most are strong advocates of the health care system in their countries.

I suggest that if it is a true interest of anyone, they may want to research the wellness statistics per country.

It's wildly ironic that Americans are hyper-focused on this one case in Britain, when the USA has the highest child mortality rates in the developed world. Add to that, they criticise the British government while they support a government that is destroying the programs that make sure children and pregnant mothers have enough food and medical care. The USA also has the highest rate of women dying in childbirth .......as well as many other health outcomes well below that of countries with socialized medicine.

Nonsense.

You are just repeating Liberal propaganda.

Canadian health care is a nightmare!

I saw it reported on Fox News, a fair and balanced news network so it must be true.

In Ontario, the provincial tax which goes directly toward healthcare works on an eleven step grid.

If you earn less than $20,000. a year, you pay zero........$ 0.00 for the year

up to the highest point on the grid...

If you earn more than $200,600. a year, you pay............$900.00 for the year

When you see your doctor, or specialist, or receive any hospital test and/or services/surgeries, etc., there is no charge to the individual.

Thank you, I thought as much. My late mother-in-law lived in he US and I do remember her mentioning medicare.

Rocket's comment above is absolutely right on ... our medical system is great. It is run on a provincial level, which means each province may differ. However, payments are dolled out federally to each province and we pay premiums through our taxes. Unfortunately since we have allowed to many illegals to enter at our expense, much of our health care will suffer eventually. Those migrants are given everything 100% free & of course do not pay taxes until they can become legal citizens & are able to find a job, contribute to our society etc.

As for Rentier, please don't give us a story about how great it is in Poland!!!!!

OMG Maisie, I hadn't realized there were so many parameters to your medicare. Most of all our tests (as described by you) are part of our government insurance. Many of us do have private insurance for dental & vision (as these aren't included with our medicare).

No, Tx, we may nothing up front (that is considered privatized medicine, sometihng that has been considered in the past as a 2-tier system). The only example I can give you, based on last year's premiums, are for example: a family of 4 would pay approx $750 annually (figured in with our taxes)!

Rocket, correct... I see I omitted a few things like the minimum salary (yes, based on 20K & below, it's zero). However, I see my figures differ from yours; perhaps yours are more up to date.

*** The amounts I listed regarding income tax directed to health care in Ontario are per person.

being british myself I can say that we have an excellent Nhs, anyone would be hard pushed to find better treatment anywhere. Yes resorses are stretched, but then again this goes across the board education and so on. Although I don't agree with alfies case, over all no one can knock the british nhs, I speak from experience

Some Yanks have an amazing ability to ignore the data when it comes to health care.

British, Canadian, Australian, and European systems deliver better results at significantly lower cost but this seems to make no impact among many in the US.

I don't understand why Americans aren't rioting in the streets on this issue.
