I thought it was time to pause for a little Robert Anton Wilson.........

Quite a lot to think about there............. as is also that for every action, there is a reaction and there is always an exception to a rule.
I've been thinking a lot today about self evaluation and am pondering a blog about it.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

There is a difference between "A Belief" and believing..

I believe a lot of stuff.... but have no "belief" in anything..

It's in my nature....and appears contrary to anybody who has "A Belief".

When it's really a combination of reason, ego, and jealousy... That says...
How can they do it.. when I can't..?

So about you.....It appears to me.. you have "a belief' in Atheism...So I appears contrary..when, in fact, I'm a 100% against religion, also.

Questioning and self-evaluating can be good thing...But the warning is you can't pick and choose....It's either about everything or about nothing.. You can't cross that bridge and think you're staying on the other side..

And yes there seems to always be an exception to the rule...And that is what spurns me on...MY questioning is the search for the exception... It's just.. I haven't found one yet.

My conclusion is not about....I'm right and other's are wrong.... I don't have
"A Belief" I'm right... besides my ego isn't quite that BIG...
My goal is to try to shed some light on ALL of us, including myself....because what I REALLY think.. is WE ALL... are just wallowing in the dark.

Yes... "a belief" and one stops growing....and when we stop growing there is no hope. It is what it is....and only what it can be.. I just can't ever be that satisfied.. There is NEVER a final answer...because every answer only results in more questions..

We are taught by parents to 'believe' - then we grow up!

What's sad is being a sheep.....

I don't have "a belief" in myself or my thoughts. I question everything.. especially myself
But the irony in her statement.. is I wish I did have a belief in myself...it's the only belief worth searching for. I do it constantly.. I search for my OWN belief.

It's not like I am constantly searching my consciousness for a belief-seed that may have taken root and immediately yank it out. I'm just considering Wilson's words........I am concerned about unexamined loyalty to a belief, or a clinging to beliefs because we find them soothing, but may hold me back.....stuck in a back-eddy due to habit or lack of imagination.

I recall a First Nations storyteller.....a very wise man....He worked with troubled boys for 40 years, He's also an artist and superb story-teller.....he described his job as teaching boys to cry. I was fortunate enough to get to sit in on some of his group sessions....I have never seen anyone be able to elicit response from those shut-down boys like he did.......it was like magic. Anyways, he told the story. then asked the boys what their favourite part of the story was....so simple, but the beginning of the boys opening up like flowers in the sun.

There was a mouse who fell into a fast-flowing river......he was frightened,he finally managed to grab onto a rock and clung for dear life.......but after a while, he realized that, although he was safe for the moment, he had to let go in order to continue his life......Beliefs can be like that rock in the raging river........momentarily safe, but ultimately debilitating.

Belief does not have to be the end of knowledge on a subject, but is often the catalyst to learn even more.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

I think Wilson is talking about belief in the sense of unquestioning acceptance without proof. The evidence is in that the Earth is not round, but slightly elliptical......I don't know what you mean by believing in a parent or educator.......hopefully neither parent or educator expect a child to believe them without question......and I don't know what you mean about believing the difference between right and wrong........that too needs to be questioned.......Intelligence is based on asking questions, on exploration and investigation.....not on blind acceptance of what one is fed........

Understand what?
Rus is actually saying here, that he believes hope can only be found in belief of his chosen religion.
I am an atheist... I have no belief in any religion whatsoever but I still hope. I hope that wars will end, violence disappear from our world, that peace will reign and many other things. At the moment I am hoping that the far right in America will come to it's senses... if they do not, millions of people will die needlessly because of trump's insane policies, while the religious right sit and watch. Is that what you want? It's what you voted for.
How Christian is that? If that's what it takes to be a good person...then I am glad to be an atheist they condemn. I wouldn't wish any of these vile policies on any human being...not even the hateful people who vote for them.

I think it's you who doesn't understand.

I don't have many beliefs, but I have a lot of opinions.

Opinions change when presented with evidence that demonstrates they are wrong.
