CHERRY BLOSSOMS AND TURKEY VULTURES |

I was taking photos of the cherry tree when I spotted half a dozen Turkey Vultures soaring above me....I managed to get a bad photo of a couple of them....by the time I point the camera, they are somewhere else....When that many show up, I know there is something dead in the vicinity, but I haven't smelled anything....

When I see them circling overhead, I always wonder if I've stood in the same place to long and they are looking at ME! I think they are such an ugly bird, and the give me the "willies"..... but I know they are important clean up agents in nature. Strange thing is that we didn't used to have them in our area at all, but they started showing up about 25-30 years ago. Now they are common. It's so good to see trees starting to bloom and leaf out.... spring is here. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

I think they are beautiful close up too...They often look very vain, the way they preen and hold their head, which is hilarious......I love coming upon them when I'm in a boat....You can see carrions birds flocking from a great distance....Vultures, Bald Eagles, Ravens and gulls....When it's something big, like a Sea-Lion or seal, they are all o pre-occupied with their pecking order that you can get really close...You cut your engine and drift in...if I'm in the kayak they pay no attention to me after the initial observation.........I have spent many hours just hovering among the carrion birds and watching......fascinating to see how they interact.....

We see a lot of turkey vultures. I had never seen them before that I know of. Sometime we see them dead and apparently have been hit by a vehicle. I saw 2 of them a couple of them 3 doors up the street. They were tossing something on the ground and eating it. I walked up toward them and it was a cat. Probably from across the street from where it was. I had seen 2 cats in their front yard. Our friend across the street saw it and was walking toward it too to see what it was tossing if on the ground. I like cats and most animals but not turkey vultures

I don't know what people mean when they say they "don't like" certain wild birds. The Turkey Vulture doesn't hurt Humans or their pets...and they do a great service by cleaning up dead things...Bald Eagles are mainly eat carrion as well, but they will also kill cats, small dogs, bunnies, other birds...but most people love Bald Eagles...especially Americans who live where those eagle have become extinct or rare.

My mindset on turkey vultures...When my late bf used to go to chemotherapy, they used to always hang out on the roof of that building. So any vulture reminds me of death

It is ironic because Ben Frankin originally wanted the turkey to be the international bird. I used to see turkey vultures frequently when I was on the hiking trail. Now I see them on occasion on the roads dining on the local road kill.

There aren't any turkey vultures in my area that I know of. But we do have bald eagles. I watch the crows as they are around my place a lot. Crows will pounce on a weak bird even if it is one of their own. They like to gang up on other birds.

Lovely photos of the cherry tree, it really is alive with beautiful blossoms, so pretty. I never see birds of prey in my area. In other parts of Ireland they are much more common I guess.
