ROLLING DOWN A HILL...

When I was a , we loved rolling down hills.....There were 6 of us siblings and our dad taught us the fine art of hill rolling. The first step is to find the right hill.....scope it out, is it a satisfactory amount of slope?....Test it....We had our favourites.....Always a smooth grassy hill.....remove any big rocks or tree branches etc....

You can use arm, leg and hip movements to help you on your way.....you get better at it with practice.......

I was thinking about it because I was tagged in a friend-group photo from 30+ years ago and I wondered why we drifted apart.........As I was going to sleep, I remembered a party.....A Summer day....It was the first time I had been in this woman's back yard....she had a beautiful view of the ocean and I wandered out on the back patio to have a better look......and that's when I saw it......the perfect rolling hill....The degree of slope was ideal, the grass was soft and smooth with no rocks or debris....I squealed in joy and anticipation and immediately lay down and started rolling down the hill......It was perfection.....The body-memories of rolling-technique came back to me and I rolled down again and again before I noticed that not only did no one join me, but they were all standing on the deck with their mouths hanging open in utter distain and the hostess called to me...."What in the world are you doing?...I thought you were having some sort of attack..........

Everyone acted as if I were crazy and turned away from me....all the proper adults sipping wine and talking about property taxes while the madwoman rolls down the hill........Wheeee.....

In Singapore, Senior citizens roll down hills as therapy....it apparently is very good for the body's balancing system.

Hell I'd still do it! We had an old barrel we'd brace ourselves in. We are to get 6-8" of snow here... I may did pout the toboggan !

I remember the fun we had doing that. There was a great steep hill in a field near where we lived, where we rolled and played to our hearts content.

A little niece of mine was out playing in my fathers garden, and she asked me to join her. We played chasing for a while, then she started to roll on the lawn, so I decided to give it a go too, much to her delight. Getting up again was the hard part I can tell you.

I don't remember ever rolling down a hill. Goodness knows we did lots of other goofy things. I recall laying out on the lawn on a sunny day. I would close my eyes while looking up at the sun I would see all sort of interesting things. Also the sun would be very red looking at it with my eyes closed.

What FUN that must have been!! Where I grew up the area was pretty flat so I missed what seems like a great time..... but I guess we're never too old, eh~~

Just need a couple of folks at the bottom of the hill to help me up now....

THE ONLY WAY I WOULD ROLL DOWN A HILL IS ON SKIS OR ON A SLED. ONE YEAR IT WAS SO WARM IN THE MOUNTAINS ON CHRISTMAS DAY, WE ROLLED DOWN A MOUNTAIN PATH USING CORRUGATED BOXES AS SLEDS. THAT WAS A LOT OF FUN.

Ahhh.....chidren playing is irresistible....sounds so fun.....it is sometimes shocking how hard it is to get up again......my Physiotherapist says to practice getting up off the floor and to walk on logs at the beach for balance...

Love the word "goofy".....Children are expected to act goofy...spending so much time with children throughout my life extended my goofy period......Did you ever look at the sun with your eyes closed when you were stoned on Psilocybin?........spectacular!!

Sparkle....yes I remember the swings we had in the school yard at school. The seats were wooden planks and there were metal chains we held unto as we swung high up into the air. We didn't have a homemade swing where we lived and if we had it would have been from a tree with ropes to hang unto. We had empty gas barrels that we would use for walking on. They would just roll nicely along for us as we tried to keep ourselves upright on it. More goofy things to ponder over Sparkle.
