The Conservative party of Canada just elected a new leader who is playing Trump's tune. He is attacking the elites just as the Mango Mussolini did. His campaign slogan is Freedom. I have always felt pretty free in Canada, so I don't know what that is all about.
This is another instance of US trends creeping across the border.
I think that Canadian will reject the Conservatives and their new approach to running the country.

Canada and Denmark have finally come to an agreement to avoid a full scale war over territory.
There is a a small island, Hans Island, in the north that was claimed by both nations.
They fought over it for decades by planting flags and leaving bottles of their hooch for the other.
Finally they have agreed to set a boundary down the middle of the island and thus avoid killing young men sent to repel invading forces.

These events have been getting some coverage on Fox News with great approval.
They are not getting much of that in Canada however.
The vast majority of Canadians are totally opposed.
The vast majority of truckers are opposed.
The events were organized and led by a gang of Trudeau hating Alberta right wing nutters.
Their funding, some of it from US sources, has been cut off at the request of the Ottawa police.
Please, Americans, you foreign aid to some place that needs it.
This is not the first time that sentiments for south of the border have spilled into Canada.

Just watched an interview with an former CIA officer was in VN in 1975. He got out shortly before the NVA rolled into Saigon.
The NVA took the whole country in six weeks.
The officer attributes the collapse to the corruption in the government and the military. He kept reporting what he saw to the Saigon chief of station, Tom Polgar, but it never got past his desk because nobody wanted to hear that. If the true state of affairs had reached congress the VN would been cut off, and Kissinger didn't want that.
Sounds very much like what happened in Afghanistan when the Taliban took over.
The US should pick better allies.

Emails from younger women

I keep getting emails on SFF from women 30 plus years younger than me.
They are always very good looking.
Needless to say, I am somewhat suspicious when this occurs.
When I ask why they are interested in someone old enough to be a father or grandfather the standard response is that age is not important.
I sometimes screw with them for a while just to waste their time.
Eventually I ask that they meet up with me on Skype so that we can see and talk to each other,
After that I never get a response thus proving, once again, it's a scam of some sort.

I just finished reading 'Caste' a book about the caste system in the US and comparing it to what exists in India, and how it worked in Nazi Germany.
One of the interesting items in the book is that Whites will be a minority in the US around 2042.
Is this upsetting for anyone?
If that were to happen in Canada I wouldn't care.

US bombing campaign in WWII

Just read a book, The Bomber Mafia', about the US bombing campaigns in Germany and Japan. The Bomber Mafia was small group of USAAC officers who believed that it was possible to fight a less destructive war by striking enemy chokepoints such as ball bearing factories and oil refineries. The British were devotees of area bombing.
What I learned was:
- The Norden bombsite wasn't all that effective in practice. A good bombardier could 'put a bomb into a pickle barrel' under ideal conditions wit h no opposition attacking the aircraft. Never happened in practice. On one of the Shweinfurt raids the B17's dropped 2,000 bombs and one was on target.
After Curtis Lemay took over the bombing of Japan he destroyed 57 cities using napalm. He thought that dropping the A bombs on Japan was useless since he thought had already brought Japan to heel. His bombers killed more people when they fire bombed Tokyo than were killed at Hiroshima or Nagasaki.

I am reading a book about the history of the Roman Catholic papacy and its inglorious past.
One sentence in it struck me as very applicable to today.
It talks about the beliefs in witchcraft in the 15th centurty.
This is the sentence that stood out for me.

End quote
This sentence describes fairly accurately the views of Trump supporters.
Despite clear evidence of his ineptitude, his moral degeneration, and complete lack of qualification for high public office, the Trumpists continue to stick with him.

Biden could not get an official presidential airplane bring him DC.
The presidential aircraft are administered by the USAF so far as I know.
The USAF is part of the US military.
The National Guard is part of the US military.
The National Guard was brought in lockdown DC.
Why was the former not done, but the second one OK'ed?
How does this work?
Does one hand not know what the other is doing?
