Australia is well known for its Kangaroos and Koalas. Australia is also the home of the black shouldered Kite bird.

Hovering over crops or grassland Kite prey on mice as their main diet though have been known to take other creatures such as grasshoppers, rats, small reptiles, birds, and even (very rarely) rabbits.

My holidays are spent mainly with a few of the wonderful people I have met here on SFF. A group of us meet up in different locations, usually staying in cabins where we can kick back and have a great time. These pics were taken when we stayed at Halls Gap in the Grampion mountains Victoria. It was very cold but as usual we had a ball.

Within Kosiosco National Park there are several ski resorts.

We took a ride in the ski lift to the top of Mt Crackenback. Now this was our summer and it was pleasent weather, coming back down though was absolutely freezing brrr don't think I could handle it if it were winter but the sights were well worth it.

It all started with a damaged old fiberglass bath tub and two old fiberglass tubs. I sanded, repaired and sprayed with jell coat. After that came the positioning then the measuring for the string line, the digging and leveling etc etc. The weed mat and border were laid, gravel and a layer of hessian was used for drainage. It was then time for the dirt to be shoveled into the pots.

Woo hoo after all the hard labor that I did all on my own it was finally time for planting. Off to the nursery I went gathered my vegetation and put them in the tubs. My plan, get the plants going and complete the landscaping with rocks, pebbles and perhaps artificial grass for the pathway around my tubs.

The first 9 pictures show my progress in August 2009. The last picture was taken of the end result in November 2010 (present time). Hmm fresh veggies and herbs what could be better! The rest will come one day…lol.

Firstly I must say that some of the pictures are of me working on the home made project, obviously not taken by me, I have included them to show part of the process.

A few years back a friend and I built 2 canoes starting from a scrappy old mold. Now I can describe the process however I would rather share a story with you.

Anyone who is familiar with fiberglass, resin and the catalyst will understand that there is a time span to work with before the resin starts to harden or go off as they call it. The mold was propped up on a couple of milk crates and we worked in unison as quickly as we could to roll out the resin through the fiberglass in the hull. I called “it’s starting to go off” we quickly finished the rolling out and immediately commenced the clean up of our tools before the resin set so hard that they became throw away items.

Picture this: The mold was propped on milk crates, I have short arms and I was leaning into the mold. Can you imagine the shock I had when I realized that the now hardening resin had soaked through my shirt, bra and onto my skin. Its ok, I managed to strip off and have a quick acetone wash before I became permanently attached to my clothes… LOL
